Therapeutic modalities

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

A structured, goal-oriented therapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviours. It helps individuals develop coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues by challenging and modifying distorted cognitions and beliefs.

Humanistic Therapy

Emphasizes personal growth and self-actualization. It operates on the principle that individuals possess the inner resources for growth and healing. This modality focuses on self-exploration, self-awareness, and the development of a strong sense of self, often through techniques like unconditional positive regard and empathetic understanding.

Mindfulness-Based Therapies

These therapies, including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), incorporate mindfulness practices to help individuals stay present and develop a non-judgmental awareness of their thoughts and feelings. They are effective in reducing stress, anxiety, depression, and enhancing overall well-being.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

A goal-directed, collaborative approach that emphasizes solutions rather than problems. It helps clients identify and build on their strengths and resources to achieve specific goals. SFBT is typically short-term and focuses on creating practical strategies to address immediate challenges.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Combines cognitive-behavioural techniques with mindfulness practices. It is particularly effective for individuals with borderline personality disorder, mood disorders, and self-destructive behaviours. DBT focuses on four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)

Centres on the importance of emotions in personal change. It aims to help individuals understand, experience, and transform their emotional responses. EFT is particularly effective in improving emotional regulation and resolving interpersonal issues, often used in couples therapy.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

A specialized form of CBT designed to help individuals, especially children and adolescents, who have experienced trauma. It integrates trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive-behavioural techniques to reduce trauma symptoms and improve emotional and psychological functioning.
