Frequently Asked Questions

Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, is a process where psychological problems and mental health issues are addressed through verbal communication with a trained therapist. It can help individuals understand their feelings, and behaviours, and develop coping strategies.

If you are experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or stress, struggling with relationships, or finding it difficult to cope with daily life, psychotherapy may be beneficial for you. It can also help with specific issues like trauma, grief, or major life changes.

During your first session, your therapist will conduct an initial assessment to understand your concerns and goals. This session will involve discussing your history, current issues, and what you hope to achieve through therapy.

The duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some people may benefit from short-term therapy (a few sessions), while others may require long-term therapy (several months or more). Your therapist will work with you to develop a plan that suits your needs.

Yes, therapy sessions are confidential. Therapists are bound by professional ethics and legal requirements to protect your privacy. However, there are some exceptions where confidentiality may be breached, such as when there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.

We offer a range of therapeutic approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), humanistic therapy, and more. Your therapist will work with you to determine the best approach based on your individual needs.

Therapy can help you gain insight into your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, improve your coping skills, enhance your relationships, and promote personal growth. It can also provide support during difficult times and help you develop strategies to manage mental health issues.

Choosing the right therapist is important for a successful therapeutic experience. Consider factors such as the therapist’s qualifications, experience, therapeutic approach, and whether you feel comfortable and understood by them. Initial consultations can help you determine if a therapist is a good fit for you.

OHIP does not cover psychotherapy sessions. However, there’s some good news! Since June 2024, HST is no longer applied to fees related to psychotherapy services, which helps make our services more affordable.

We handle payments directly, but we’re happy to provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your extended health insurance if you have a plan that covers our services. While we don’t deal with insurance claims ourselves, we’re here to support you in any way we can. Be sure to check with your insurance provider to see if our services are covered.

You can schedule an appointment by sending us an email or using our online booking system for an initial consultation call. We will assist you in finding a convenient time for your session.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call emergency services or go to the nearest emergency room. Therapy sessions are not designed for crisis intervention, but we can provide support and resources during regular office hours.
